The appointment of the new IGP, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu will certainly bring some major reshuffle to the Nigerian police force, there are reports that the new IGP have reversed four of the most recent postings done by his predecessor.
The punch today reported their may be a forced retirement of four DIGs .
The four DIGs are part of the management team of the police, their forced retirement would be to pave way for the new IGP , to begin the running of the affairs of the organisation.
According to the report, those that might be affected by the reorganization include
The report quoted police sources as saying that DIGs Mohammed Katsina (research and planning); Sani Mohammed (training and development); and Peace Madueke -Abdallah (federal criminal investigation and intelligence) who were promoted late in 2018, could survive the impending purge of the Police Management Team.
“The three DIGs were on the same rank as Adamu last year.
In fact, Abdallah was a commissioner of police the same time the acting IG was also a CP, so they were almost on the same level.
“By virtue of this fact, the new police boss may include them in his management team and save their career from sudden death,” the source said.
Abdallah, it was learnt, has about six years to retire and could be the worst casualty of the forced retirement if Adamu decides to send all the police management team members away.
It was learnt that the IGP possessed the power to retain the management team if he so desires, but he would have to write to the Police Service Commission (PSC) about his chosen team members.
The former assistant inspector general of police, Abubakar Mohammed Adamu, took over as the new police boss after crucial meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Rock Villa on Tuesday, January 15. Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) berated the outgoing Nigeria Police Force boss, Ibrahim Idris, describing his tenure as shameful and partisan.
In a statement on Tuesday, January 15, by the national publicity secretary of the PDP, Kola Ologbodiyan, the party stated that former IGP Idris, must be held accountable for all the atrocities he committed while in office.
“Idris will be remembered as the only IGP in our political history, who surrendered the responsibilities of his exalted office to the whims and caprices of politicians who share courtesies with the Buhari presidency.”
